Following 19 months of renovation and construction, AXIS/GFA’s latest hotel renovation project, The Clancy Autograph Collection Hotel, celebrated its grand opening in early October.  A project for Premier Project Management on behalf of Braemar Hotels & Resorts Inc., the hotel renovation saw the complete reflagging and redesign of the existing Courtyard San Francisco Downtown hotel into a new boutique South of Market (SoMa) hospitality destination in downtown San Francisco.

With a program that included the renovation of the hotel’s lower-floor public spaces, lobby, reception area, dining and bar venues, and over 11,000 square feet of updated meeting space, AXIS/GFA’s contribution to the renovation included a comprehensive refresh of the building’s façade and exterior.  The firm’s vision for the hotel was to create approachably-bougie and authentically locally inspired spaces mused by SoMa’s ever-developing neighbourhood.  The design blends the simplicity of the materials found in the historically industrial SoMa neighborhood with the very design-forward and growth-focused energy that pushes throughout the surrounding streets.  Public art and open space are located throughout the ground floor areas to create collaborative spaces for business leaders and entertainment guests alike.  As part of AXIS/GFA’s design, The Clancy’s restaurant and bar were fitted with large nano-type windows to create a more visual space and to bring the energetic streetscape into the interior spaces. Interior design expertise was provided by EDG.
